Economy System in Seokarno Era
In
the era of guided democracy, President Soekarno carried out a Guided Economy
system. In this economic system, the president is directly involved and
regulates the economy. All economic activities are centered on the central
government. As a result, economic activities in the regions have been disrupted
and decreased. In the era of guided economy, Indonesia has repeatedly changed
its economic design along with the success of the cabinet in power. Like other
developing countries which were just released from colonial rule, economic
policies in Indonesia in the early 1950s were largely shaped by influencing
objective social and economic problems that confronted the state and the basic
economic ideas of the the main economic policy maker. Faced with the daunting
task of reconciling the urgent need to rehabilitate the economy which suffered
widespread destruction during the Japanese population and revolution, with
strong general demand to turn the colonial economy into a national economy.
When Indonesia adheres to a government-led economy, it has put inward-locking
police policies. This policy is characterized by the policy of
"Berdikari" or standing on its own feet, and a very restrictive
policy, and then rejecting foreign investment altogether.
